Palin Has No Shame
Nov 9th
Poor Sarah Palin. Those meanies from the McCain camp just won’t stop picking on her. They keep saying all those hurtful things about her. Like that she didn’t know that Africa was a continent, that she couldn’t name all of the countries in North America, or that she didn’t prepare for the Katie Couric interview. Of course, she’s not taking it lying down. No sir, not Sarah Barracuda. In a CNN interview, she made it known what she thinks of those McCain people:
I consider it cowardly. It’s not true. That’s cruel, it’s mean-spirited, it’s immature, it’s unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away taking things out of context and then tried to spread something on national news that’s not fair and not right.
How rich is that? This from the woman whose rhetoric the Secret Service blames for an increase in death threats against Obama in the closing weeks of the campaign. It’s no surprise, though. She’s both Christian and Republican, two synonyms for hypocrite.
Meanwhile, the knuckledragging Palinites are steadfast in their support for the Queen of Unenlightenment. One group of them are on a search & destroy mission, seeking out those from the McCain camp who would dare to tarnish the reputation of their mistress, hoping to blackball them in the Know-Nothing Party. I hear the Princess of Incomprehension is counted amongst their number.
The Anti-Palin

After hearing all of the nonsense spewing forth from one Vice Presidential candidate, it’s always nice to hear reason and sense from the other. I don’t agree with everything Biden has said or done, but he is certainly one of the most respectable members of our government. I encourage you to watch the full 11+ minutes of this speech.
I Should Be Vice President
Sep 19th
The insight Sarah Palin gained into Russia, being that she could see it from her backyard, is nothing compared to the insight I have into South Korea, North Korea and Japan. Forget Palin and Biden. I should be Vice President.
My 17 years of actually, physically living in South Korea make me a top expert on Korean affairs. I can speak, read and write a good deal of the language. I even eat kimchi on a regular basis. Not only that, but I have a great deal of experience negotiating with the Koreans. I’ve frequently had to negotiate schedules and salaries for the English classes I teach. And nothing beats the amount of diplomatic experience I’ve gained through negotiations with my Korean wife. Sarah Palin’s foreign policy experience is feeble compared to mine.
But that’s not all. I’ve been to Japan five times. I’ve also visited the Philippines and Guam (yeah, it’s a U.S. territory, but it’s still exotic). I almost visited China. But more pertinent to the current world situation, I’ve looked across the border into North Korea on three different occasions; once from a helicopter as it flew several miles along the DMZ. Few people understand North Korea as I do.
So to any future presidential candidates on the market for a running mate with foreign policy experience: pick me! With my vast experience and deep insight, you’ll be a dozen steps ahead of the other guy.
Not Only Democrats

It seems even some Republicans are sick of the Politics of Smear. You can read the story of one Republican, soon to be (if not already) a newly registered Democrat after having seen Palin’s vitriolic RNC speech, over at the DailyKos. Already disturbed by the lack of policy discussion and the abundance of insults and character assassination on conservative talk radio, this fellow was pushed over the edge by Palin’s speech. Here’s the meat of the post:
Last night, Sarah Palin gave a speech that was in theory meant to get people like me excited about the Republican ticket. This was one that should have gotten me back on board and excited about the McCain/Palin platform.
Instead, it sickened me in a very deep and personal way.
I could go through some of the quotes that made my stomach turn, but many others have already done a great analysis of the speech.
All I heard was a long stream of extremely bitter attacks against Barack Obama, none of which go even the slightest step towards solving the problems of this country. When I tuned in, Rudy Giuliani was firing off some attacks, but I expected that – every convention has some room for criticism of the opposition.
But Palin’s speech was obviously meant to be the centerpiece, the real statement about the direction of the Republican party.
And I heard absolutely nothing about their plans for the future.
All I heard was a long, long stream of pointless attacks against Barack Obama, the Democratic Party in general, and the media.
No solutions. No real content. No anything.
There was one line at the end that really twisted things for me.
“Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America … he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights?”
Every single human being has the right to a fair trial and to be treated humanely by their captors. John McCain, of all people, should understand this. He was a prisoner of war.
On the one fundamental issue that his entire campaign is centered around – the character-building experience of his POW stint – he gets it wrong.
America cannot be a shining beacon of light in the world when we condone policies of treating our enemies with the same standards as the Viet Cong treated their enemies.
Every criminal, no matter how heinous their crimes, deserves humane treatment and a fair and expedient trial. Period. That is a fundamental human right.
When you’re giving the central speech of your party’s convention, to make a joke out of it makes a joke out of me. Not just as a (former) Republican, but as an American.
This morning, I donated $250 to Barack Obama’s campaign. Tomorrow, I’m stopping by the voter registration office to change my party affiliation to Democrat. Saturday, I hope to plant an Obama-Biden sign in my front yard.
This lack of respect for your political opponents, this denial of basic human rights to those who oppose us, this complete emptiness of policy – it ends. Right here, right now.
Amen! Here’s hoping Sarah Palin and John McCain continue this tired, old, Republican policy of hatred and stupidity. It really does appear to be working in the Democrats’ favor this time around.
And here’s another:
When you’ve lost my mother, you’ve lost America.
—-Note to Sarah Palin: You managed to do in 45 minutes what I’ve been unable to accomplish in 27 years…my many thanks.

Palin Gives Obama Donation Boost
Sep 5th
Sarah Palin helped the McCain campaign rake in $10 million after McCain announced her as his running mate last week. This week, Michael Luo blogs at the New York Times that Palin’s convention speech helped the Obama campaign do the same, setting a one-day fundraising record. That shows that the Republican politics of Fear and Smear have had their day, methinks. A mobilized Democratic base is quite a bit larger than a mobilized Republican base.
Abusing Heart
Sep 5th
I tuned in to the Republican convention to catch McCain’s speech to see how high he ranked on the bullshit meter. Let’s say he met my expectations. Then I got a bigger shock during the ‘celebration’ after the speech. I find Republicans offensive enough as it is, but playing Heart’s Barracuda as Palin’s theme song is going way too far. A quick Google shows me this had already been played during the convention. Ann and Nancy Wilson weren’t too happy about it either, it seems.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic “Barracuda” as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart’s rep, who says “The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission.”
The ‘pubs then ignored the Wilsons’ request not to use the song any more by playing it at the end of the convention. First they insult our intelligence, then they attack our liberties, now they belittle Heart?
For more reasons not to vote Republican, just read the comments some (obviously Republican) clueless wonders left on that post.
Palin Praise for Obama?
Aug 30th
The more I see of politics, the more I hate that we have to put up with it. In a news item on the Alaska state website dated August 8, Governor Palin had some words to say about some points Obama made in a Michigan speech. Specifically, she was commenting on a part of his energy plan regarding Alaska. Obama said,
Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.
Governor Palin’s remarks were,
“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”
“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.
Pretty innocuous, if you ask me. Despite the title of the news item (“Palin Pleased with Obama’s Energy Plan”), she’s not really praising Obama or his plan so much as pimping Alaska’s oil industry. Unfortunately, now that Palin is McCain’s VP pick you can no longer see this on the Alaska state website. Google cached it on August 28, so you can see it there.
What irks me about this is the obvious reason for the post’s removal. That is, you can’t have either member on a presidential ticket saying anything that could be construed as ’support’ or ‘praise’ for any of the opposing ticket’s policies. Later, if Palin or McCain criticize Obama’s plan, no one can come back with a link to the news item to call them hypocrites (unless it sticks around in Google’s cache for a while). It’s a reminder that political candidates are never really free to speak their minds.
More importantly, it’s one of the many blatant examples that demonstrate the absurdity of politics. We, the people, listen to members of an elite class of society telling us all of the things we want to hear and decide who says it the best. Like Fox Mulder, we want to believe. We know deep down inside that it’s a dog and pony show, but we carry on emotionally because we want it to be true. We know they are bending the truth, or leaving bits of it out. We know they are manipulating the headlines with carefully crafted soundbites and covering up the things they don’t want us to see, things that often actually make them appear more human.
I can just never get over how we so wilfully ignore what is right in front of our faces. It really borders on the absurd.
