Standing up to Islam
I've frequently written posts on this blog that are highly critical of Islam. I don't intend to stop. You aren't going to convince me that I should be nice about it, that Islam is a religion of peace, or that I should respect the religious values of others. The religious certainly don't respect my values. But more than that, Islam has produced a horde of fanatics who are hellbent on imposing their will upon the rest of the world.
I don't deny that there are peaceful Muslims who don't agree with their more radical brethren. But even they practice traditions and rituals that are incompatible with Western cultural values. When you ignore the extremists in order to appease the moderates, you do so at your own peril. Islam poses a severe threat to freedom and the ideals of Western democratic republican governments. It should not be free of criticism, nor should we tolerate the angry reactions of Muslims when they are criticized.
Pat Condell's position is my own. I agree with every word he says in the video below. This is the attitude we need in the West to protect our own values and secure the future for our children. Ancient mythologies like Islam should never, ever, trump our freedom. Don't tolerate it. Speak out against it and do so proudly.
