Prince Caspian

I’ve never read the Chronicles of Narnia. And until last night the only story in the series I’d been familiar with was the first, having seen the animated version several times as a child. I’d heard of, but never seen, the BBC series of Narnia movies from the late 80’s. When I first heard of the latest incarnation in 2005, I put it on my list of must see movies. Sadly, it fell way short of my expectations. I can’t put my finger on any one aspect — it just was missing the mojo. Because of that, I wasn’t too keen on seeing the second installment.

This weekend, my wife made reservations for Prince Caspian and told me after the fact. Had she discussed it with me first, I would have tried to convince her to pick something else. I’m glad she didn’t. This time around, they managed to inject the mojo that the first movie was missing. It may have helped that I wasn’t familiar with the story, but I really enjoyed it.

If you didn’t like the first of the new Narnia movies, you might find Prince Caspian to be more entertaining.

the makers of Prince Caspian kept to the original story in some ways and strayed in others… i heard they were going to make it into a silly pure-action flick, but thankfully this was not the case
