I just heard on TV that singer Lim Sung Hoon, better known as Turtleman, died from a heart attack Wednesday in Seoul. He was 38 years old (by Korean reckoning, I assume, which makes him either 36 or 37 in the West, depending upon whether or not his birthday had already passed). Funeral services were held at Soon Cheon Hyang hospital yesterday afternoon and evening. Korean funerals are quite a bit different than those from back home, which tend to last two or three days with the body laying in state. In Korea, it’s normally a one-off affair, with a picture of the deceased to which guests pay their respects by bowing (as his two group mates are doing in one of the pictures here).
A member of the KPop trio The Turtles, Turtleman had a rich voice and a humorous side that often came across in his videos and interviews.
