What a long weekend I had. On Saturday, I had to teach for five hours with just over two hours of commute time. A two-hour morning class which would have added an hour to the commute total was canceled that day, so it wasn’t as long as it could have been.
In the evening, it was off to Kangnam for Neil’s birthday celebration. Neil has had some big gatherings for past birthdays, but this time there were just five of us. We’ve gone out as a group before sans any special occasion to celebrate, but the birthday label gives us married guys an excuse to stay out later while simultaneously making anyone who wants to stay home feel guilty. I did consider skipping it this time because the wife and I had plans early Sunday morning for which I did not want to be late or hung over. So the birthday label compelled me to go, but it didn’t do much for me staying out late. I was home and in bed by 11:30 Saturday night.
Sunday morning started off at 5:30 with a mild headache. The wife and I suited up and headed out to Pukhan mountain. I wasn’t exactly hung over, but I surely wasn’t in top shape. The 40-minute bus ride made me rather queasy. I survived though and we got a good hike in. I’ll post some pictures soon.
After a quick trip home for showers and lunch, it was off to Yangjae for a wedding. My wife knows the groom a little through her job and I am acquainted with him. Normally, we wouldn’t bother going to the wedding of someone we barely know. But, we promised him one night in a wine bar when we’d had a feel-good, love-the-world, wine buzz going on. So we kept our promise. We dropped in, saw the ceremony, said hello, ate some food and headed out.
From there it was off to Yongsan CGV to see 10,000 BC. We had a little over an hour to kill before the movie so decided to shop for some DVDs. It was about then that my body started screaming in agony and my energy seemed to evaporate. My wife was feeling the effects of the hike as well. So we parked ourselves on a bench for a half-hour and dozed off a bit. We made it to the movie on time, though. I’ll definitely do a write up on it soon.
I didn’t make it to the gym today. Too damn tired. Had I skipped the birthday party Saturday night, I think I’d have been in better condition last night and today. But, it was worth it.
