There are so many American franchises that I had never heard of before showing up in Korea these days. One of them is On the Border. It opened some time late last year. I just went there for the first time last week. It’s spectacular. Either that, or I just haven’t had any good TexMex food in so long I’ll settle for anything.
There is only one location in Seoul currently, I believe. It’s just outside exit 4 of Shinchon station (near Yonsei University). The portions are decidedly not Korean sized. Both times I’ve been I ordered the Grande Taco Salad and it was too much for me. My wife ordered a steak with enchiladas tonight. I tried a few bites and it was fantastic. She swore that she will never go to Outback again. We also had a couple of really good margaritas and ordered some Chile Con Queso for the chips. I ate more like the old me than new, health-conscious me, but I’m not complaining.
If you’re in Seoul craving some Mexican and don’t have access to the US Army base for Taco Bell, get yourself over to Shinchon and On the Border. Forget about Pancho’s in Itaewon, or those Taco places that have been popping up over the past few years. On the Border blows them all away.
I had planned to snap a pic of the food, but I was so eager to eat that I any thought of pictures flew out of my head after it was on the table.
