If you happen to be unfortunate enough to stay in a particular hospital in the UK and find yourself, as a non-Muslim, sharing a room with Muslims, you can now expect to have your stay disrupted five times each day. Nurses have been instructed to turn the beds of Muslim patients five times a day so that they face Mecca.
The lengthy procedure, which also includes providing fresh bathing water, is creating turmoil among overstretched staff on bustling NHS wards. But despite the havoc, Mid- Yorkshire NHS Trust says the rule must be instigated whenever possible to ensure Muslim patients have “a more comfortable stay in hospital”.
Can’t have Muslims in discomfort for not being able to face Mecca at prayer time, can we? So what if it happens to disrupt the normal operations at the hospital, or causes other patients not to get the level of care they otherwise would. Apparently, the comfort of Muslims is a higher priority than the comfort of anyone else. Says one nurse:
“Although the beds are designed to be moved, the bays are not really suitable for having loads of beds moved around to face a different direction, and despite our best efforts it does cause disruption for non-Muslim patients.”
Maybe the rest of us should follow the Muslims’ lead and start chopping off heads when we don’t get our way.
I come from the US, where we have our own issues with homegrown Christian nutjobs who suffer from the delusion that America is a Christian nation. They want to see it turned into some sort of holy land. But it’s quite undisputed that the UK is not a Muslim nation. From that perspective, the Muslims should be the ones that have to accomodate themselves to the local customs and laws. It is, after all, what they expect of Westerners who visit to their own countries, as demonstrated by the case of the British teacher recently thrown in jail in Sudan for allowing her class to name a teddy bear Mohammed. If the Muslim religion requires its followers to face Mecca and pray five times each day, it is not for the citizens of non-Muslim countries to accommodate them. They came to the UK of their own accord, so they ought to work out their issues themselves. If staying in a hospital bed that doesn’t face Mecca is a discomfort, then they can very well pack up and take themselves back to the backwards, barbaric country from whence they came.
It’s well past time for the West to stop accommodating delusional fools.
