Happy Days

Over the past few weeks I’ve been out of the house quite a bit. That’s reflected in the scarcity of blog updates this month. I’ve been hitting the gym almost every morning, hiking up mountains near Seoul twice a week (I have some shoddy pics I may post later), meeting friends at least one night each week and spending most of my afternoons somewhere about town. I had intended to get some programming work squeezed in there, but just blew off everything to do with my computer. I haven’t even checked my email every day, which is something that would have been inconceivable to me a couple of months ago.

As a result of this burst of new activity, after 8 years of a quite sedentary lifestyle, I’ve lost just over 13 pounds in the past three weeks and a little more than an inch off of my waist. It’s not just that I’m more active. I’ve also been paying more attention to what I eat, restricting myself to mostly water and eating smaller quantities of more healthful food. I feel like a new man. My wife claims that men my age only go through such a sudden change in lifestyle because they’ve met a younger girlfriend. I counter that I’m going through this lifestyle change in order to more easily meet a younger girlfriend. I hope we’re joking!

Unfortunately, it looks as if I’ll have to cut the hiking trips out of my schedule. The only reason I’ve been able to go is that I have no classes to teach on Monday and Wednesday evenings. That’s probably going to change very soon as I’m currently discussing the details for a couple of new classes which will most likely take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings. I could really use the extra money to help save for some luxury items I want to buy and to pay for a couple of trips I hope to take next year. I can still go hiking on Sundays, at least. Though, everyone and his brother goes hiking on that day. I like the weekday hikes because the trails are relatively empty. But, I will make do.

I’m not sure when I will get back into a regular routine on the computer, updating my blogs and getting some programming done. I had posted on my programming blogs last week that I was sort of back, but it turned out a bit different. I do have one quite pressing project to work on that I can’t shirk, but everything else I don’t particularly care about right now. I’m happier than I’ve been in a long while and I’m feeling 10 years younger. That’s a feeling I don’t want to lose!
