Cheney on the Warpath

The Big Dick is bringing the United States even closer to war with Iran. On Sunday, he was out vocalizing his war chant to a local D.C. think tank.

Experts at the conference said the vice president’s language, while stopping short of threatening military action, seemed designed to prepare Americans for what the administration might do if Iran did not cooperate. “The language on Iran is quite significant,” said Dennis Ross, who served as a Middle East envoy for both the first President Bush and in the Clinton administration, and is now a scholar at The Washington Institute. Referring to Mr. Cheney’s remark about “serious consequences,” Mr. Ross said, adding that it was a strong statement and that “does have implications.”

This sort of escalation, which flies directly against the wishes of the American people and common sense, aptly demonstrates that war with Iran is a foregone conclusion. Some people have continually refused to accept that fact. But this is no different than Iraq. As we now know, the Bush administration had no intention of pursuing a successful course of diplomacy with Iraq and every intention of invading. Remember how the rhetoric gradually stepped up in the months and weeks leading to the invasion?

And here we are again, with the rhetoric ratcheting up. Once again, we are on the verge of an illegal attack on a sovereign nation without a Declaration of War by Congress. People with common sense have been saying since the Democrats took office that if Congress doesn’t impeach the Decider and the Big Dick, we’ll find ourselves embroiled in a disastrous, regional conflict in the Middle East. Something that will be orders of magnitude worse than Iraq. Our impotent, toothless, spineless Congress has done nothing. Nada. Zip.

Now, the piper is knocking on the door.
