Critics of the Decider’s “war” on terror repeatedly say that it’s disastrous and misguided. They say that we cannot successfully decrease terrorism and protect our country as long as we continue to follow such a policy. The war mongering conservatives who still think that patriotism means killing Iraqis are quick to deride the critics as unpatriotic. For those morons who still cling to the Decider’s stupidity, I point you to a recent poll in Pakistan, carried out by D3 Systems and the Pakistan Institute for Public Opinion on behalf of the anti-terrorism group Terror Free Tomorrow. Ken Ballen, head of TFT, sums it up thusly:
“We have conducted 23 polls all over the Muslim world, and this is the most disturbing one we have conducted,” said Ken Ballen, the group’s head. “Pakistan is the one Muslim nation that has nuclear weapons, and the people who want to use them against us — like the Taliban and al Qaeda — are more popular there than our allies like Musharraf.”
OBL scored a 46 percent approval rating, compared to 38 percent for Musharraf and 9 percent for Bush. But the real kicker is what the Pakistanis think of the Decider’s war.
Asked their opinion on the real purpose of the U.S.-led war on terror, 66 percent of poll respondents said they believe the United States is acting against Islam or has anti-Muslim motivation. Others refused to answer the question or said they did not know.
“We failed in winning hearts and minds in Pakistan,” Ballen told CNN. “In fact, only 4 percent said we had a good motivation in the war on terrorism.”
Sixty-six percent believe the United States is really fighting a war against Islam rather than terror. War critics have been saying all along that Bush threw away a golden opportunity when he invaded Iraq. This poll proves it. Had the Decider made the right decision, that of actually fighting terrorism rather than illegally invading and occupying a sovereign, mostly Muslim, nation that had nothing to do with 9/11, the poll numbers would almost certainly be quite different.
No matter what the outcome in Iraq, we are losing the important fight, that against Muslim extremism. The irresponsible actions of the Bush administration have transformed sympathy into hatred and, as the government’s own intelligence agencies have reported, have made the world a much more dangerous place by increasing the terrorist threat. The Decider has given the extremists more than ample ammunition to find new recruits and turn the hearts and minds of Muslims around the world against us.
I’ll say it again as I’ve said it countless times before: when are Americans going to take their future, and their safety, into their own hands and demand that the impotent Democratic Congress act to get those smirking criminals out of the White House? Every day that goes by increases the danger to America and all non-Muslim countries. We need sensible leadership, people who will work to repair the damage wrought by those incompetent, power-hungry fools currently running the show. It may very well be too late. Once people get it into their heads that they are in a religious struggle, you can bet that any amount of common sense they might have possessed, and the religious surely don’t have it in abundance, is completely gone. Convincing them otherwise is going to be a tough sell.
One thing for sure, the fight that should have been the ideological struggle of our time, that of civilization versus terrorism, has instead turned into something much more dangerous. What could have been a cooperative, global effort, which would have stretched across borders, religions, and political boundaries, and which would have had a high chance of success, has instead turned into a struggle that could potentially break the United States and several of her allies. The Decider has managed to turn the war on terror into a clash of civilizations. That is the fight that has become the struggle of our time. A fight that never should have been, one that no one but the Muslim extremists wanted. Well, they’ve got it now, don’t they? Bush handed it right to them. It’s only a matter of time before the Taliban and al Qaeda gain enough influence in Pakistan to put Musharraf out of business. What then, when those lunatics, with the support of a majority of Pakistanis who think that the United States is out to get Islam, put their hands on the country’s nuclear arsenal in the name of Allah?
Meanwhile, we’re still sending our soldiers off to die for the Decider’s Folly. Soldiers who could be employed against a real threat to the United States are instead bleeding for an Iraqi civil war. And more Muslims the world over turn against us with each passing day. Can you blame them? Whatever the real reason for the Iraqi diversion, it’s certainly not to fight terrorism. The Decider’s constant parroting that we are fighting terrorists in Iraq doesn’t make it true. Some claim it must be oil, others claim the neocons just wanted to topple Hussein. Is it really that much of a leap for a Muslim to believe we are warring against Islam?
I’m tired. I’m tired of reading the idiotic ranting of the mindless sheep who cling to the Decider’s pant legs. I’m tired of brainless morons calling me unpatriotic, or accusing me of supporting the terrorists, because I want our resources to be used against real threats to our safety. But most of all, I’m tired of the people who do have brains, and who do understand reality, sitting around and waiting for things to change. Get off your asses you laconic zombies! March on Washington. Donate to antiwar groups. Petition Congress to impeach the criminals occupying the White House so that we can seek justice for the crimes they have committed. Take your country back! Then we can begin the long road to making America safer and healing the very deep wounds the irresponsible and incompetent Bush administration have caused.
