Yeah, So There are Bigger Idiots
I thought the Malkinites were the dumbest of the dumb, but I was mistaken. The community over at CSE blogs are in a league of stupidity all of their own. Just read the comments on this post by Kent Hovind, the evangelist and young earth creationist currently serving 10 years in prison for tax-related offenses.
Hovind often writes 'letters' in conversation format, where one side of the conversation is God. The simpletons who hang on his every word believe he is in direct contact with their imaginary friend. Aside from the countless quotes of scripture to make one point or another, some of the comments they leave boggle the mind. Take, for example, this bit of idiocy from someone named 'Harriet':
Good to hear from you, Brother Kent! My family is preparing for a “Creation-Vacationâ€! We’re going camping at the Grand Canyon. We’ll prayerfully share the truth with those we meet. We’ll be sure & share that the CO River did NOT cut the Grand Canyon over millions of years!Harriet is the sort of empty headed fool for whom Ken Ham built the Creation Museum. One 'Nehemiah Jeon' even seems eager to spend ten years in prison like Hovind, or perhaps doesn't understand the meaning of 'role model':
Dr Hovind, I am praying for you every night for your release. I do not understand at the moment what God’s plan for you, but it is certain that we all will relize and understand the Lord’s tremendous plan for you. You know what, brother Hovind? I am a little jealous (positive way) because I am SURE you are going to be crowned and rewarded in heaven when we all get there. I’m always grateful because of you, my role model, Dr. Dino. Cheers! NehemiahApparently, the message Hovind's sheep are taking is that they should not resist the Bush administration's power grab, but should instead submit meekly and do as they are told. Some people are taking a little more away from it than that, as this comment from a 'jspatr2' shows:
Sweet. Hovind has learned not to revolt against what God has made. I love your work Kent! Maybe God will let you out now that you won’t lead his sheep down a bad path. We shouldn’t revolt, but submit.. just like the first generation of Christians. Its a radical thing.. Jesus saying do not resist an evil person. But we are to lay our lives down, even for those who hate us. awesomenessMartyrdom! How awesome is that! Then there is the infallible Christian logic, as demonstrated by GaryMurray:
Everything this is worth something in glorifying God is criticised by someone, or some group. Criticism of God’s work is typically assurance that it IS God’s work. How astoundingly astute. Should my godless brethren and I sit back and shut up now, since every time we criticize God we're really verifying his existence? Um, no, I think not. As for the rest of GaryMurray's comment:
Christ was criticised before and while on the cross, he being both Lord and our Saviour, how much more shall we be criticised for believing in him? That's an easy question to answer: either until you join the rest of us in reality or until death do we part. Fear not, though, GaryMurray. There are those whose logic is more infallible than yours, like that of your friend 'tobejustlikejesus' in a response to someone pointing out the obvious (that Hovind broke the law):
It is funny though, you are so quick to judge and do not yet know the facts. there are a lot of “charges†that were filed on Kent, half of them do not even apply(in fact all of them). This was not about his “personal†money it was the ministry. Please, if you are going to judge, do it properly. though, I yet do not know all the facts regarding this case and will wait to see what brother kent has to say God bless EveryoneSo you see, half of the charges are inapplicable because all of them are inapplicable because it wasn't personal money it was ministry money so don't judge until you know all of the facts which I don't know. Phew! I think I've had enough of astute reasoning and flawless logic for one day.
