Restoring Our Rights

Having given up on the fight to end the Iraq War, Congress is now making a move to restore the Constitutional right of habeas corpus, which was essentially revoked by Bush in the Military Commissions Act last year. Hopefully, this will lead to the restoration of more of the rights that the Bush administration trampled upon and swept under the rug.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Congress really has a bite, as all they’ve done so far in this session is to bark loudly and show some teeth. We’re still mired in Iraq, the executive branch is still run by criminals, and a long list of rights abuses have yet to be answered for or corrected. They managed to raise the minimum wage and make Gonzales look like a monkey, but other than that they seem pretty useless so far.
