Backwards Americans Have More to Learn

When it comes to social mores, Europeans have long been light years ahead of Americans. Whether it be nudity  and sex on television or the biting of thumbs at religion, Europeans tend to be more liberal in many areas. Americans are prudes by comparison. For a country that claims to be a model for the rest of the world, the USA has a lot to learn from others.

A great example is the success of the British military in allowing homosexuals into the ranks:

Since the British military began allowing homosexuals to serve in the
armed forces in 2000, none of its fears — about harassment, discord,
blackmail, bullying or an erosion of unit cohesion or military
effectiveness — have come to pass, according to the Ministry of
Defense, current and former members of the services and academics
specializing in the military. The biggest news about the policy, they
say, is that there is no news. It has for the most part become a
nonissue.

How about that? All of that mad ranting by conservative Christians and other preachers of hate and bigotry turned out to be just mad ranting. Of course, the Jerry Falwells (good riddance) and Pat Robertsons (hurry up and follow your hateful buddy on out, please) of America will never stop preaching their filth, but now the US military has a real world example that shows all of their concerns are unwarranted speculation. I hope a group of homosexuals presses the case to end the military’s silly, discriminatory policy of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. They have just as much right as the rest of us to fight and die in senseless, illegal wars.
