Why Bush Won a Second Term
Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson was recently a guest on right wing windbag Bill O’Reilly’s program. Someone posted the appearance on YouTube. While the clip is demonstrative of O’Reilly’s typical stupidity, some of the comments demonstrate something even more telling. This comment, for example, is similar to comments I have seen from Bush supporters in other forums:
I’m PROUD of Bill. Someone actually told Rocky what needed to be said.
He says he loves his country BUT he wants our troops to come home so
that we will have to start fighting in the UNITED STATES. I would
rather fight there than here. President Bush is doing what needs to be
done. GO BUSH AND BILL. Rocky Anderson is the one that needs to be
IMPEACHED
It’s comments like this that demonstrate the utter stupidity of many Republican voters and the genius of Rove. It’s been quite a while since anyone from the Bush administration uttered the nonsensical claim that if we weren’t fighting in Iraq we’d be fighting the terrorists at home. Yet even now, wingnut parrots really believe it to be true. While people with even a meager capacity for reason shook their heads in disbelief at the silliness of some of the administration’s claims, people like the hapless commenter above, people who apparently have the IQ of a rock, lapped it all up as the gospel truth.
This one comment is not an isolated thing, either. You can find many more just like it all over the net. I suppose Rove and the other architects of the Bush administration propaganda machine understood a few things about their base: many of them won’t think much about what the administration says because they are more concerned with their personal issues; most of the rest are so gullible they’ll believe anything the administration tells them; the few who do realize that it’s all hot air aren’t going to care because they are the administration’s strongest supporters anyway (the ends justifies the means).
Indifference and gullibility are what allow rulers to become tyrants. Fox loves the stupid and gullible — those two demographics are their primary audience. If the majority of Fox devotees were smart enough to tie their shoes, talking heads like O’Reilly would not be able to continue to spew their drivel.

The video, of course, has already been pulled from Youtube “for terms of use violations”.
It was pulled as I was watching it - it stopped buffering at around the 50% mark and when I refreshed the page, it had been removed.
