The Republican Problem
The New York Times reported on a poll which aimed to determine the state of the Republican party. The poll took a much larger sample than normal. One of the results was that party members aren’t satisfied with their selection of presidential candidates. That’s really not surprising, considering the amount of commentary that particular issue has been getting in the news lately. What really made my head spin, though, was the following:
For all that, the poll found that Republican voters remain largely loyal to Mr. Bush and his positions on the issues. Among Republicans, 75 percent approve of his job performance, and by overwhelming numbers they approve of his handling of foreign policy, the war in Iraq and the management of the economy.
As Janice Litman Goralnik née Hosenstein would say, “Oh… my… God!”
This speaks volumes about the mindset of Republicans and shows why they cannot be allowed to win the election in 2008. If Bush is their idea of a good president and his disastrous foreign policy is their idea of good governing, I’d say they shouldn’t be allowed to win for a very long time. I mean, I was well aware that there are a lot of idiots and buffoons in the Republican party, but this goes beyond what even I gave them credit for.
