Arlen Specter Talks Sense

I have rarely agreed with or admired anything a Republican politician has said in the past six years. More often, I find what they say to be outrageous. But more and more frequently I am reading and hearing Republican quotes that make sense. Six years of abuse by the Bush administration and a resounding message of displeasure from the public have a lot to do with it, the latter more than the former I'm sure, but it's still nice to see. So I happily quote here a snippet from a recent New York Times article about opposition to the "surge" in the Senate. Republican Senator Arlen Specter has a nice suggestion for the Decider:
"I would respectfully suggest to the President that he is not the sole decider," Mr. Specter said. "The decider is a joint and shared responsibility."
If enough of his Republican colleagues agree with him, then I have higher hopes for the next two years than I had allowed myself after the election.
