This is the first of what I hope to be a weekly series of posts awarding the title ‘Moron of the Week’ to some deserving soul. I will not bestow such a dignified title on those who are regularly in the public eye. If I did that, Bush would be the clear winner nearly every week, sort of defeating the purpose. Instead, this honor will belong to the little people, those average Joes and Janes who don’t have the power or authority to screw up the world alone, but still put forward their best effort.
The inaugural honoree is a man who stands up for the youth of America. His honor is unassailable, his integrity infallible, and, most of all, his intellect unmatched. This man amongst men has selflessly stepped forward to protect our children from that most harmful and evil of threats: science. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for the Moron of the Week, Frosty Hardison.
Mr. Hardison has taken a stand not just against science, but against Al Gore. When he learned that his daughter and her schoolmates were to be subjected to Gore’s propaganda documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, he just couldn’t be quiet about it:
Condoms don’t belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He’s not a schoolteacher. The information that’s being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. … The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn’t in the DVD.
Not only did Mr. Hardison, who knows that the Earth is 14,000 years old, take a valiant stand in defense of the truth — he succeeded. The local school board now requires that teachers who show such a controversial documentary follow it up with the presentation of a “credible, legitimate opposing view”. Such bold and swift action brought the entire school board to a close second in this award race. It takes real courage to stand up against the controversy of scientific evidence.
So cheers to Frosty Hardison, my pick for the first Moron of the Week award. You’ve truly earned it, sir.
