Heavy Snow in Korea

This weekend saw some heavy snow throughout Korea. My wife and I were affected by it on our way back from her parents’ house. Traffic on the expressway was heavy in a couple of areas so it took us a bit longer than we expected. Since the snow first started falling Saturday night, there have been reports on the news of several traffic accidents, some of them involving buses and other large vehicles. Many Koreans are dangerous drivers even in good weather, so it’s not surprising.

Winter is my favorite season, particularly in Korea. During this time of year I like to get out of the house and away from the computer as often as is reasonable. This year, I’m going to carry my camera with me and snap some local shots for the blog. Since the election is over I think I’ll tone down the political rants and focus more on Korea. People who have never been here have a great many misconceptions about the country. I’ve seen people online who think that all Koreans regularly eat dog meat and I’ve met people here who were blown away when they saw that Korea isn’t like it was depicted on M*A*S*H. I’ll do my part to clear things up for anyone who drops by for a read.

There are also a great many poorly translated, often humorous, signs to take pictures of. One restaurant that was in the popular Itaewon district for years displayed a large sign that read, “Lamb Carcass”. I must have walked by it a thousand times and thought of taking a picture of it nearly as often. Sadly, the place closed a few years ago so the opportunity is gone. There are plenty of other signs, though.
