Larry King Interviews the George and Laura
You can’t help but feel sorry for George Bush. As much as he has ruined the country, as much as he has made the world a more dangerous place, he still lives in a fantasy world where he is doing the right thing and the world is safer. As much as I think he should be taken out back and shot for being a liar and a war criminal, I’m starting to wonder if maybe he really belongs in a mental insitution.
“When history looks back, I’d rather be judged as solving problems and being correct, rather than being popular,” Bush said.
Well, we all know he won’t be judged as being popular. As to solving problems and being correct… in his fantasy world, perhaps. In the real world, he has created more problems and solved none. I can’t think of any issues he’s been correct about, except perhaps a few comments on the weather.
“The president that chases the opinion poll is the president that will
have failed policy,” Bush said in an exclusive joint interview along
with his wife, Laura, at the White House.
A nice, sweeping statement that dismisses the opinion of the American people outright. That tells you what he thinks of the people he is sworn to lead and protect. If you saw the interview, you’ll know that even his wife said, “The polls… don’t mean anything. The polls aren’t important.” Granted, public opinion is not always right, but an outright dismissal of what the people think is just plain wrong. Bush has done nothing but pursue his own agenda since he’s been in the White House and has failed to take any stock in public opinion at all. He has, of course, repeatedly tried to manipulate public opinion through fear mongering and pandering – not so much to swing it in his favor as to temper protests and opposition, I’m sure.
In November, when the Republicans get kicked out of congress, our Great Decider will learn exactly how important opinion polls are.
