So why are you telling me? And why are you searching for a key? Contact Pareto Logic, the company that makes RegCure, through the support links on the RegCure site and tell them. That’s what customer support is for.

Aldacron, you’re perfectly in the right. I guess the anonymity of Internet offers the illusion that you can simply do as you want, just because it is there for the taking. I myself am guilty of this, no use in denying that. The same with pornography too, no? Few people would prefer going to a porn store, face the cashier as you hand him your copy of Asian Sl**s and Wh***s, and would much rather just download a clip or two, same from the scrutiny and potential judgement of others. But that’s another can of worms.

If this software is so great, why don’t they be up front with people who may be interested in the software rather than take you through a maze of bullshit stuff leading you to think that the “free download” means the software if free. That pisses me off that a company has to be sleezy and underhanded to accomplish sales. By the way, you ain’t no God so don’t be so self righteous!

I Agree if this software is that good why not place a free trial download for a full 30 days with full version like other software developers and websites conduct to give you a full aspect of how good this software is.

I sell software myself so this is definitely a NO NO on my website and i will be placing this onto other forums NOT To BOTHER Downloading!

Firstly I’ll start by stating that aspects of your opinion make sense, however you draw yourself to be the bigger asshole to be honest. Who made you law? Who says pirates will “face your wrath”. To assume to know everything about the people who download cracks and files for free shows how uneducated you really must be. Sure, if you buy a TV and give it away to someone else for free, you aren’t breaking any laws and people will consider you a kind soul. With infinitely copyable goods, however, the line isn’t so clear. When you copy a piece of software and give that copy to someone else (or a registration key that makes the copy fully functional), you are creating a new copy. There will only ever be one instance of the TV. Once you give it away, you no longer possess it. When you copy that software/music/movie, however, you still possess your original copy. That isn’t a criminal offense, but it is a civil offense if you copy and distribute it without the original producer’s consent. The producer (or the copyright owner) can take you to court for that and you will lose. I suppose you never studied civil law while working on your major.

You are ignoring a large number of independent software developers who are self-employed and do not ‘get paid on completion’. They get paid per sale — and their sales figures are nowhere near those of major software developers like Microsoft. These are just average people trying to make a living doing what they love. Their software is usually quite cheap. Independent games usually go for $10 – 20, yet they still get cracked and widely distributed on the internet. Don’t tell me they don’t feel it. I’m actively involved in the indie game development community and I know they are hurting. I know some who have already given up and gone back to full-time jobs.

But even bigger software development teams can feel the crunch of piracy. I have no hard numbers, but it’s no secret that piracy can lead to layoffs and worse at small and mid-sized companies.

In the case of RegCure, it doesn’t say ‘free software’. It says ‘free scan’. It works as advertised. Download it and you get a free scan. I don’t see how that can be difficult to understand.

(And usually the product isn’t really worth paying for which is why people either use them for free if it’s handy or not at all, chances are if a person downloads software, it’s something they wouldn’t have bought anyway).

ha ha Ok ok enoughs enough. I’m sorry Aldacron I actually agree with your stand on theft. I got carried away because our general attitude towards people seem to be a little different, but overall I DO completely agree with you. I post on blogs to advocate just for the sake of putting up an argument. I want to be a lawyer when I grow up and my teachers and other students at my school are not very interesting at all and NEVER have anything good to go one on one with like alot of the users of the world wide web do. I know some of my friends have older brothers who download some programs and games but I don’t know if I could go far enough to call them scum, one of them stopped a bunch of kids from beating me up one time, so I kinda just ignore the seemingly smaller things people do not thinking it’s that big of a deal. For my part well, I’m glad I can tell you that I have yet to pirate any software (not even games ). (well actually i did download a few of the songs i like from limewire a while back.. but thats all i’m really capable of online.. is DL’ing songs illegal? in canada?) other than that I’m not sure I’d even know how to pirate. Anyways, sorry I stopped making sense back there, but I really enjoyed our back and forth you are good at rebuttle! I saw all the nasty verbals you were having on the this blog and just had to join in. I learned more than I thought I would too, now I know how piracy affects developers and generally the people involved in the business of software. I will continue to advocate on blogs as I come across new interesting ones, but I hope I can find ones like this one, hosted by someone who can keep up their side of their argument effortlessly, validly, and most of all relentlessly! Thanks for the education! (oh by the way I’m 11 if you’re wondering, and I want learn as much about the law and litigation as I can because I really want to go to an accredited Law School when I’m old enough). So in closing I just want to make clear that I agree with and promote all of your stands on piracy, I DO however have to maintain my stand on the general good in people (even some piraters) because odds are lots of people are gonna keep downloading things no matter what as long as its free and easy for them, and there (so far) doesn’t seem to be a whole lot we can do about that so far. But at the very least, I have to believe that out of ALL those MANY people, there must be many of them out there who still have a capacity for good and may beable to positively affect our communities and even our planet in the real world. (and while I’m absolutely certain there are some bigtime piraters out there who even I could call scumbags, I’m equally as certain that there is someone out there, quietly plucking at a keyboard, maybe procuring some programs or something by some ill gotten means or what have you, waiting for some opportunity in their life to make a real difference in the world maybe or even just their own lives. Basically what I’m trying to get across, is everyone has a story. And it just seems unfair to assume what the worth of their story is from our view when we haven’t even heard it. I know I’ve been through a great deal so far in the short time I’ve been alive, and it would hurt to think of people I didn’t know assuming to know my ‘worthless’ existance y’know? Even the good people of this world can do bad things, which doesn’t excuse it, but I think it’s alot harder than you think it is to accurately label individual users as scum or bad people.

I realize that good people do bad things (I’ve done a few things in my life that I shouldn’t have). But it’s been my experience that good people will continue to do bad things if they don’t perceive that they are hurting anyone by doing it. Again and again, until they either wake up and get a guilty conscience or they get caught.

The problem is that people are generally short-sighted and fail to see the big picture, even when it’s pointed out to them. It’s like they’re wearing blinders. And it impacts several aspects of our society. As a current example, there are some genuinely good people who are opposed to same-sex marriage and see nothing bigoted or discriminatory about their behavior. But I have no problem calling them bigots, no matter how good they may be, because they want to exclude a segment of our society from enjoying the same rights they do.

By that same token, it’s very easy for me to call a pirate a scumbag. I don’t care if it’s someone who rescues babies from burning buildings as a day job. Having multiple facets to one’s personality doesn’t mean we have to focus only on the good parts. Besides which, we rarely see every facet of other people even when we are close to them. We can only know someone by their deeds. It’s quite possible for one person to be both a hero and a scumbag. So I have no problem with using both words to describe the same person when the shoes fit.

I think that is very well said. I couldn’t argue that point if I wanted to. Actually I bet alot more people will see things your way just from that last post! I still won’t generalize people (it’s just my way, I’m the same in the non-digital world heh heh) but I can definitally see now EXACTLY what you mean and I will finish by saying that I not only respect your opinion, I now fully support your cause. I shall try to help you in the fight against piracy by putting up my own blogs in much the same fashion. I don’t care what any of you think, hypocrite or not. WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND ALL MAKE MISTAKES. Does that mean that the person barely surviving on $1500 to $2500 a year should have to pay for a serial number more than once???? YOU FOOLS!!! I lost my nero password and after countless emails back and fourth they finally just quit and ignored me altogether.
