New Audio Toys

I can’t remember the last time I bought speakers for my computer. I rarely used them when I had them since I like things loud but my wife finds that annoying. I’ve been using headphones for quite some time now. Today, I decided to change that.I went out to pick up some new speakers. Rather than the crappy generic 2 speaker systems I usually went for in the past, I decided to go with something a little more modern. I knew I wanted something from either Creative or Logitech. I was hoping to get a 7.1 system, but wound up with a 5.1 system instead. The place where I do all of my hardware shopping didn’t have any 7.1 systems in stock from either brand. When buying computer hardware in Korea, I’m very picky now about which brands I buy and where I buy them. I’ve been burned too many times not to be.

I ended up getting the Creative Inspire 5200 set. I also picked up an Audigy 4 card since my onboard card doesn’t have a Dobly Digital decoder. The Audigy 4 supports 7.1 speakers, so I could have gotten an Audigy LS for about $40 less and been fine. But I’m looking forward. I’m going to build a new system in a month or two and my new audio card will go in it. Sometime later down the road I’ll be wanting to get a super speaker system for it. At least I won’t need to upgrade the audio card then. That’s going to be my media rig, while this one will be relegated to software development only. For now, these speakers work great and sound awesome. My DVD and gaming experiences are much, much more interesting!
